England all-rounder Sam Curran created history on Friday, December 23 at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 player auction, becoming the most expensive purchase in the history of the competition. T20 World Cup winner Curran, who entered the auction at a base price of INR 2 crore was purchased by Punjab Kings (PBKS) for a record INR 18.5 crore. Curran had been part of the same franchise at the start of his IPL career. Following the deal, Curran broke the previous record held by for South Africa all-rounder Chris Morris, who was purchased by Rajasthan Royals (RR) for INR 16.25 crore ahead of the 2021 season

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the final list of players for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 mini auction, which will be held in Kohli on December 23. While 991 players had registered for auction initially, the organizers have pruned the list to 405. The initial final list had names of 369 players, but an additional 36 players added to the auction on franchises’ request.

Based on the BCCI deadline, all 10 Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises have announced their list of released and retained players ahead of the IPL 2023 mini-auction, which will be held in Kochi on December 23. Ahead of the retention announcement, some trades took place as well.
